Tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Computational Physics

The Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark seeks outstanding candidates to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the research and teaching area of computational physics. The position is at the Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense within the Center for Nano Optics (www.sdu.dk/nano-optics) and it is available from spring 2019.

The initial appointment is for a period of 4 years with the prospect of a performance-based advancement to a tenured position as Associate Professor. Promotion to the tenured status will involve a review by an international review committee. If the outcome is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge theoretical and computational research in the broad area of nano-scale solid state science and technology, including electron transport in confined mesoscopic geometries, nano-scale continuum mechanics and acoustics, and nano-scale electrodynamics.

Requirements for the position

The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree within the mentioned research area and will be expected to teach and instruct students who participate in bachelor and master courses. Likewise, the candidate is expected to contribute actively to young-researcher education through supervision of Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
Shortlisting will be used, and shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide two letters-of-reference, which should be submitted directly by the references (submission instructions will be given to the relevant applicants). Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an international assessment panel.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview and a test lecture.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
