During the talk, we will dive into the world of elementary particle physics. The different particles of the Standard Model will be introduced and it will be explained what is so special about the “Higgs boson”. After a discussion of how the Higgs boson could be observed in 2012, we will look into how the Higgs boson can actually serve as a window to new physics, i.e. physical phenomena that are not yet discovered and that cannot be described by the Standard Model of particle physics.
